Ralph: Here are the copies of the Indian carving that John Dexter
carved and sent to my grandfather. I am sending 3 different
pictures. This time with no typing showing thru the pictures. If
you need the write up about the ship the wood came from let me know.
Also I can't remember if I every sent you a copy of the letter that
John Dexter sent to my grandfather concerning the death of their
father. If not and you want a copy I will gladly send it to you.
It is not in the best of shape, because of the age of the letter.

Yes end both the write up and letter. Ralph 03/29/08 The Osborn are very
creative people as shown by the use of famous wood to create
images and given to their children for posterity. Dick was lucky
enough to have a family that saved such a work of our family
artist John Dexter Osborn. I must say my father Ralph Waite Sr
was a very good artist and this Osborn family heritage maybe the
source of this artistic dna gene. We present this work as a
sample of what is left to us. There maybe more if Dick can find
it. Consider all of the craftsmanship in your 50 years of blacksmith trade as art for the future generations to see. Don't leave it in the dust - your life work was an art - even if you just viewed it as work. think of your Osborn grandkids. So glad you can still contribute. You may not know how important each minor data saving is as the future clues for your ancestry. Ralph

We took a sample of Richard
Osborn good DNA and tested it. Ralph: How can I obtain a y-dna from my father, he has been dead since 8/12/1977. I am at a loss to understand how I could obtain a sample. Of course I could send a sample of my
dna, but am uncertain if it would be of any use. And of course if it
cost a lot of money, I would not be interested. Dick

DNA Stuff Hi everyone, I’ve been studying the dna test results the last couple days and only now have come to appreciate the amount of effort put into the charts, diagrams and explanations. Thanks for your effort and help Tom. I would like to detail my understanding of the data as it relates to Dick and me. First, there is the strongest possible paper documentation that Phineas 1767 is my direct ancestor six generations back and although I have not been privy to his documents I know Dick is equally convinced that he is a direct ancestor as well. Because our relationship is established by the paper trail we’re left to try to rationalize the test results. A look at the 25 marker chart makes it seem pretty clear that we both fit nicely in group 4 and are descendants of Thomas and Mary Goatly Osborn. Dick is unique in the group in that he is the only one in group 4 who varies from the presumed ancestral allele value at allele marker 385a which indicates to me one mutation between him and Phineas 1767. We both vary by 1 at the 391 marker. My situation is that in addition I vary at both the 449 and 464c markers which indicates two mutations between Phineas 1767 and me. Even though these locations are where mutations are most likely to occur, the dna gurus still don’t like a distance of three for proof of a relationship between two people; though according to the charts it does not totally exclude the possibility of us being related. It is Interesting that the results indicate that both of us are closer matches to others in the group whose relationships to us are unknown. Dick I thought this would be a slam dunk with us matching exactly so I was pretty shocked. As Tom has said it isn’t an exact science with the potential for mutations. At least it put us in the same group. I suspect that additional participants will give us a better understanding of what it all means. Cheers, Your mutant cousin, Jerry In a message dated 1/2/2008

Ralph: I am sorry
that I had not replied sooner, but I just found this email under a seperate
location. I seldom
look in this folder as I don't use it. Now as to my sense of humor, I
believe
that I have a very good
sense of humor and I do a lot of joking and kidding. However the
unmentionable
name E, I am not
comfortable with and mostly refuse to use it. How this rotten name got
attached to me is unknown by me.
I really think my objection to that name came from a boy I knew in my younger years named that and who I came to dislike a lot for reasons I no longer remember.
I will try to be less
objectionable in the future. Dick
